SaigonTex runs annually in Ho Chi Minh City and brings together fabric, trim and machinery makers serving the garment industry. It is where buyers handle material samples and discuss technical requirements with the maker directly. For woven tape that matters more than it might sound: a length of tape in the hand says things a photograph and a spec sheet cannot.
Why tape has to be handled
Three things that decide a tape selection barely survive a screen. First, hand feel: at the same 20mm width, high-density plain weave and grosgrain behave completely differently through a hardware loop. Second, how cleanly the heat-cut edge holds, which only shows after folding it a few times. Third, colour: every screen is off, and on tape half a tone of drift is enough to draw a complaint from the end customer.
A fifteen-minute conversation at a booth, with a colour card and real samples on the table, routinely replaces several weeks of email.
What to bring to the meeting
The most productive meetings are the ones where the buyer arrives with a specific requirement rather than a general question. Four things cut out most of the time.
- The tape currently in use, even if it comes from another supplier: a physical comparison is faster and more accurate than any description.
- The colour reference in the system the end brand uses, or a swatch of the face fabric to match against directly.
- Expected volume per colour and per month, since minimum quantity drives the quotation more than material does.
- A photograph of where the tape sits on the product: a load-bearing handle at the base of a bag and a decorative tape on the flap are different problems.
The most common mistake at a trade fair is asking for a price before settling the specification. A price per width only means something once material, weave, colour and volume are known.
After the fair
The thing to do immediately after leaving a booth is to confirm in writing what was agreed: which samples were taken, the widths, the material, and whether the next step is sampling or a quotation. Samples collected across dozens of booths blur together quickly, so labelling them on the spot is a habit worth keeping.
If you would rather talk before or outside the fair, call the hotline or send an enquiry through the contact page; physical samples can be posted out by product group.
